Typically, it is a mildly acid coffee, light bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peruvian coffee are considered a good blending coffee due to its nice but understated character. The Cuzco area, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans can be a dark roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the bean roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the cultivating region & in part impactged by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both beans exhibit a simple and balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the predominant coffee crop:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall and leggy low yield plant but produces high qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest being of other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area lies at an elevation range of 1,000–1800 metres.
