Generally, a mildly acid flavour, light-bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peruvian coffee beans are considered a good blender due to its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco location, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also grows respected wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peru coffee may be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the farming location & partly impactged by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatra, are produced at lower elevations.
Both beans have a simple & balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee grown:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall & leggy small yield plant but provides excellent qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area is at an elevation range of 1,000 to 1,800 metres.
