Typically, a mildly acid flavour, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru are considered a good blending coffee due to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also grows respected wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peru coffee may be a dark roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the cultivating location and partly impactged by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatran, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans exhibit a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the dominant coffee cultured:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type which is a tall and leggy small yield shrub but produces great qualities, usually very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area lies at an altitude range of 1000–1800 metres.
