Usually, it is a mildly acid cup, light-bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peru are thought of as a good blender due to its pleasant but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also produces renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans may be a darker roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the bean roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming location and partly impactged by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatra, are grown at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans exhibit a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the predominant coffee grown:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety which is a tall and leggy small yield tree but provides great qualities, generally quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder are other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area is at an elevation range of 1,000 to 1,800 m.
