Usually, a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru coffee beans are considered a good blending coffee owing to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco location, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peru coffee beans may be a dark roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming region and partly influenced by the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatra, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both coffees exhibit a simple and balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall and leggy small yield shrub but provides high qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area is at an elevation range of 1,000–1,800 m.
