Usually, it is a mildly acid flavour, light-bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peru coffee beans are considered a good blending coffee due to its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peruvian beans may be a darker roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the cultivating region and partly impactged from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatra, are cultivated at lower elevations.
Both coffees have a simple and balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the primary coffee cultured:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety that is a tall & leggy small yield plant but provides excellent qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivation area is at an elevation range of 1,000 to 1,800 metres.
