FAQs
Generally, a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru are considered a good blender due to its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also produces renound wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peru beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee bean roasting after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the cultivating area & in part impactged by the method a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are produced at lower elevations.
Both coffees have a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the predominant coffee farmed:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type that is a tall & leggy small yield tree but produces excellent qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee farming area lies at an elevation range of 1000 to 1800 metres.
