Usually, it is a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru coffee are thought of as a good blending coffee because of its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco area, especially the Urubamba Valley, also produces renound wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee may be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming region & in part influenced from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatran, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans show a simple & balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee crop:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type which is a tall and leggy small yield tree but provides excellent qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area lies at an elevation range of 1,000–1800 m.
