Generally, a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peru beans are considered a good blending coffee owing to its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco area, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peru coffee beans may be a darker roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee bean roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the growing location and in part impactged from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatra, are farmed at lower elevations.
Both coffees show a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee farmed:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy small yield plant but produces high qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area lies at an altitude range of 1,000–1800 metres.
