Usually, it is a mildly acid cup, light bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peruvian coffee are thought of as a good blending coffee because of its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peru coffee can be a dark roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the coffee bean roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the farming location & partly impactged from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are cultivated at lower altitudes.
Both coffees exhibit a simple & balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the dominant coffee crop:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type that is a tall and leggy small yield shrub but provides great qualities, usually very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest being of other types.
About 75% of the coffee growing area lies at an elevation range of 1000 to 1,800 metres.
