Usually, a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru coffee are known as a good blender because of its pleasant but understated character. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates respected wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans may be a dark roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the bean roaster after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the cultivating area & partly impactged by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are farmed at lower elevations.
Both coffees exhibit a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee cultured:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy small yield plant but provides excellent qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder being of other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee farming area is at an elevation range of 1,000–1,800 metres.
