Usually, a mildly acid flavour, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peruvian beans are thought of as a good blending coffee due to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru beans may be a dark roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the coffee bean roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the growing region and partly impactged by the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are cultivated at lower elevations.
Both beans exhibit a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the largest coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type which is a tall and leggy small yield tree but produces great qualities, usually very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder are other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area lies at an altitude range of 1,000 to 1,800 m.
