Typically, it is a mildly acid flavour, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peru beans are considered a good blender owing to its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco area, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows respected wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the farming location & partly impactged by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatra, are cultivated at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans have a simple yet balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee cultured:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall & leggy small yield plant but produces excellent qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the rest being of other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area is at an elevation range of 1,000 to 1,800 m.
