Generally, it is a mildly acid flavour, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru beans are known as a good blender due to its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco location, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates respected wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee bean roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the growing location and partly impactged by the method a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans have a simple and balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee crop:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy low yield plant but provides great qualities, generally quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest being of other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee growing area lies at an elevation range of 1000–1,800 m.
