Usually, a mildly acid taste, light bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peruvian are considered a good blending coffee due to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco location, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peru beans may be a dark roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the growing area and in part impactged from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are produced at lower elevations.
Both beans exhibit a simple and balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee cultured:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall & leggy small yield plant but produces excellent qualities, typically very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the rest being of other types.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area is at an elevation range of 1,000 to 1,800 metres.
