Usually, it is a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru are known as a good blender due to its nice but understated character. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates respected wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the farming region & partly influenced from the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatra, are farmed at lower elevations.
Both coffees exhibit a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee grown:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall & leggy low yield plant but produces excellent qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75% of the coffee growing area lies at an altitude range of 1000–1,800 metres.
