Generally, it is a mildly acid cup, light-bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peruvian coffee beans are known as a good blender owing to its pleasant but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru coffee beans can be a darker roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the bean roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the cultivating area & in part influenced by the method a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower elevations.
Both coffees exhibit a simple and balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee crop:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall and leggy small yield tree but provides high qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest being of other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee cultivation area lies at an altitude range of 1000–1800 m.
