Typically, a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru coffee are known as a good blending coffee because of its pleasant but understated attributes. The Cuzco location, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also produces renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peru coffee beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the coffee roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the cultivating area and partly influenced by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatra, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both beans have a simple yet balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee farmed:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type that is a tall and leggy low yield plant but produces excellent qualities, generally quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other types.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area is at an elevation range of 1000 to 1800 metres.
