Typically, a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian beans are thought of as a good blender because of its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peru coffee may be a darker roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the coffee roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming area and in part impactged from the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are farmed at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans have a simple & balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the predominant coffee cultured:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety which is a tall and leggy low yield plant but produces great qualities, generally quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area is at an elevation range of 1000 to 1800 metres.
