Typically, a mildly acid coffee, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peruvian coffee beans are known as a good blending coffee due to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peru coffee beans may be a dark roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the bean roasting after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the cultivating region and in part influenced from the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are cultivated at lower elevations.
Both beans show a simple yet balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety which is a tall and leggy small yield shrub but provides excellent qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area lies at an elevation range of 1,000 to 1800 m.
