Typically, it is a mildly acid cup, light-bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peruvian coffee are thought of as a good blending coffee owing to its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates respected wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru beans can be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the farming region and in part impactged from the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are cultivated at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans exhibit a simple and balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee cultured:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy low yield plant but provides excellent qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest being of other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area is at an altitude range of 1000–1,800 metres.
