Usually, a mildly acid flavour, light-bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peru coffee beans are considered a good blender because of its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru beans can be a dark roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the cultivating location & partly influenced from the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower altitudes.
Both coffees have a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the primary coffee crop:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type that is a tall and leggy low yield shrub but provides excellent qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest are other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area is at an altitude range of 1,000 to 1800 m.
