Usually, it is a mildly acid cup, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian beans are thought of as a good blending coffee due to its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peruvian beans can be a darker roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the bean roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the growing area & in part influenced from the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are cultivated at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans have a simple and balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy small yield tree but produces great qualities, usually very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest are other types.
About 75% of the coffee growing area is at an altitude range of 1,000–1800 metres.
