Usually, it is a mildly acid coffee, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian coffee beans are considered a good blender owing to its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans can be a darker roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the bean roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the cultivating area and in part impactged by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower elevations.
Both coffees show a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the primary coffee cultured:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety which is a tall and leggy small yield plant but produces high qualities, typically very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder being of other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee farming area lies at an elevation range of 1000–1,800 metres.
