Typically, it is a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peru coffee are considered a good blender because of its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also produces respected wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peruvian beans can be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the cultivating area & partly impactged by the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are grown at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans show a simple yet balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee grown:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety which is a tall & leggy small yield tree but provides high qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest are other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee farming area lies at an elevation range of 1000 to 1800 metres.
