Generally, it is a mildly acid coffee, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru coffee are thought of as a good blending coffee owing to its pleasant but understated character. The Cuzco area, especially the Urubamba Valley, also produces respected wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans can be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the cultivating location & in part impactged by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both beans have a simple and balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the predominant coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall & leggy small yield shrub but produces great qualities, usually very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area lies at an altitude range of 1,000–1,800 metres.
