Typically, a mildly acid cup, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian coffee are considered a good blending coffee because of its pleasant but understated character. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows respected wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee can be a darker roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the cultivating region & partly influenced by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are farmed at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans exhibit a simple and balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the primary coffee grown:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy small yield plant but provides excellent qualities, typically very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75% of the coffee cultivation area lies at an altitude range of 1000–1,800 metres.
