Generally, it is a mildly acid flavour, light-bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peru beans are considered a good blender due to its pleasant but understated attributes. The Cuzco area, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also produces respected wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peru coffee beans may be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the cultivating location & in part impactged from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both beans have a simple & balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee crop:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type that is a tall and leggy low yield tree but provides high qualities, generally quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivation area is at an altitude range of 1,000–1,800 metres.
