Usually, it is a mildly acid taste, light bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peru are thought of as a good blender because of its nice but understated character. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans may be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the growing area and in part influenced by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans have a simple & balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee grown:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type which is a tall & leggy small yield tree but provides excellent qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivation area lies at an altitude range of 1000 to 1800 metres.
