Usually, it is a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peruvian coffee beans are thought of as a good blender due to its nice but understated character. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also produces renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee may be a darker roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the farming region & in part influenced by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are cultivated at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans exhibit a simple yet balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the largest coffee cultured:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy low yield tree but provides excellent qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder being of other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivation area lies at an altitude range of 1,000–1800 m.
