Typically, a mildly acid flavour, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian are considered a good blender due to its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco location, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates respected wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peru coffee beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the growing region and in part influenced from the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are farmed at lower elevations.
Both coffees show a simple and balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the primary coffee cultured:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall & leggy low yield tree but provides great qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other types.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area lies at an altitude range of 1,000–1,800 m.
