Usually, a mildly acid taste, light bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peru coffee beans are thought of as a good blending coffee due to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco area, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also produces renound wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru coffee may be a dark roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the farming location & partly influenced by the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are cultivated at lower elevations.
Both coffees show a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the largest coffee grown:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type which is a tall & leggy small yield plant but provides high qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee farming area is at an altitude range of 1000–1,800 metres.
