Usually, it is a mildly acid cup, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peru coffee are considered a good blender due to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco area, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans may be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the farming location & in part influenced from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatra, are produced at lower elevations.
Both coffees exhibit a simple yet balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall and leggy small yield plant but provides great qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area lies at an elevation range of 1000 to 1,800 metres.
