Usually, a mildly acid flavour, light bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian beans are considered a good blender due to its pleasant but understated attributes. The Cuzco area, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans may be a darker roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee roasting after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the growing location and partly impactged by the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans have a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the largest coffee farmed:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy low yield tree but provides high qualities, typically very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest are other types.
About 75% of the coffee farming area is at an elevation range of 1000–1,800 m.
