Generally, it is a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peruvian coffee are considered a good blender owing to its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peru coffee may be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the coffee roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the growing location & partly impactged by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are cultivated at lower altitudes.
Both coffees show a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee farmed:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy small yield shrub but produces great qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee cultivation area lies at an elevation range of 1000 to 1,800 metres.
