Usually, a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peruvian coffee beans are considered a good blending coffee because of its pleasant but understated character. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peru beans may be a dark roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming location & partly influenced by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans show a simple yet balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the predominant coffee crop:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy small yield tree but provides high qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee farming area is at an elevation range of 1000 to 1,800 m.
