Typically, a mildly acid cup, light bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian beans are thought of as a good blending coffee due to its pleasant but understated character. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans may be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the cultivating area and in part impactged from the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are cultivated at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans have a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the dominant coffee cultured:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall and leggy small yield shrub but provides great qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area is at an altitude range of 1,000–1800 m.
