Usually, it is a mildly acid flavour, light-bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peruvian beans are thought of as a good blender owing to its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates respected wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the coffee bean roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the farming location and partly influenced by the method a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are grown at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans show a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the dominant coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall and leggy small yield plant but produces excellent qualities, typically very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest being of other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area is at an altitude range of 1000–1800 m.
