Typically, a mildly acid coffee, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian are considered a good blender due to its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru beans can be a darker roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming region and partly influenced from the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatra, are grown at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans show a simple & balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee grown:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety which is a tall and leggy small yield shrub but produces excellent qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the rest are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area is at an altitude range of 1,000–1800 metres.
