Typically, a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peruvian beans are considered a good blending coffee because of its nice but understated character. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also produces respected wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peru coffee beans can be a dark roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the farming area and partly impactged by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are cultivated at lower altitudes.
Both beans have a simple and balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee grown:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type that is a tall & leggy low yield tree but provides high qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the rest are other types.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area is at an altitude range of 1,000 to 1800 m.
