Typically, it is a mildly acid cup, light bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peruvian beans are thought of as a good blender owing to its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also produces respected wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee may be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the growing location and in part impactged by the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are farmed at lower altitudes.
Both beans show a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee cultured:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall & leggy low yield shrub but produces high qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder are other types.
About 75% of the coffee growing area is at an altitude range of 1000 to 1800 m.
