Generally, it is a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peru coffee beans are known as a good blending coffee because of its nice but understated character. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates respected wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans may be a darker roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee roasting after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the cultivating region and partly impactged from the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower altitudes.
Both coffees have a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee cultured:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type which is a tall & leggy small yield plant but provides high qualities, usually quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area is at an elevation range of 1,000–1,800 m.
