Generally, it is a mildly acid cup, light bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru are thought of as a good blender due to its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates respected wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru coffee beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the coffee roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming region & in part impactged by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are cultivated at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans have a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the primary coffee crop:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety that is a tall and leggy low yield tree but provides high qualities, generally quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest being of other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area lies at an elevation range of 1000 to 1800 metres.
