Typically, it is a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peru are known as a good blending coffee because of its pleasant but understated attributes. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru coffee beans may be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the farming location & in part influenced by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatra, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans exhibit a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the predominant coffee farmed:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall & leggy low yield shrub but provides great qualities, usually very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee growing area is at an altitude range of 1000–1800 m.
