Typically, it is a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peru coffee are thought of as a good blender owing to its nice but understated character. The Cuzco location, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also grows respected wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee can be a dark roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the farming location & in part influenced from the way a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower elevations.
Both beans have a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety that is a tall and leggy small yield plant but provides high qualities, usually very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the rest are other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area lies at an elevation range of 1000 to 1,800 metres.
