Usually, a mildly acid flavour, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru are thought of as a good blending coffee owing to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peruvian beans can be a dark roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming area & partly impactged from the method a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are cultivated at lower elevations.
Both coffees show a simple and balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the dominant coffee grown:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain that is a tall and leggy low yield plant but provides high qualities, generally quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area lies at an altitude range of 1000–1800 metres.
