Generally, a mildly acid taste, light bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peruvian coffee are known as a good blending coffee due to its pleasant but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows respected wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peruvian beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roaster after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the farming location and partly impactged from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatra, are grown at lower altitudes.
Both coffees have a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the dominant coffee grown:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety that is a tall and leggy low yield shrub but produces high qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the rest being of other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area lies at an elevation range of 1,000–1800 metres.
