Generally, a mildly acid coffee, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian coffee beans are known as a good blender because of its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peru coffee beans may be a darker roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the bean roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the growing location and in part impactged from the method a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this category. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatran, are produced at lower altitudes.
Both beans exhibit a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the predominant coffee crop:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety that is a tall & leggy low yield tree but produces high qualities, generally quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee strain that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee farming area is at an altitude range of 1,000 to 1,800 m.
