Usually, a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peru coffee are considered a good blender owing to its pleasant but understated character. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows respected wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peru coffee beans can be a darker roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee roaster after the coffee has been produced. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the cultivating area and partly influenced by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans have a simple and balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee crop:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety that is a tall and leggy low yield tree but produces high qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the remainder being of other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee farming area is at an elevation range of 1000 to 1,800 m.
