Usually, a mildly acid cup, light bodied but flavourful and aromatic. Peru coffee beans are known as a good blending coffee because of its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the coffee roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is partly due to the cultivating region & in part impactged from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are cultivated at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans have a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the predominant coffee grown:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety that is a tall & leggy small yield plant but produces excellent qualities, usually very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area is at an altitude range of 1000–1800 m.
